A director at the national level, Yanqiu is also a member of Chinese Dramatists Association and Chinese Opera Directors Association. After graduating from Liaoning College of Arts and Central Academy of Drama with a major in directing, she finished her Master in Literature at China Chinese Opera Academy, which she is currently employed in.

She is also a regular guest speaker in Beijing Foreign Studies University. She was previously invited as guest speaker in Renmin University of China and China Academy of Art. Her acting credits in Beijing Opera and Ping Opera include "Hongqiao with the Pearl ", "Li Hui Niang", "Flower is a Go-between", "Third Sister Yang Goes To Court" and "Liu Hulan".

She has experience in directing Beijing opera, play, Ping opera, Flower Drum Song, Wan Bang opera, opera TV drama, documentaries, experimental repertory and various types of evening shows. Her directing works have won: Chinese Drama Festival’s "Excellent Drama Award", "Cao Yu Drama Award", and "Chinese TV drama Flying Apsaras Awards ". Some of her notable works in directing include “Connect Your Heart", "Moon River" and “Mad Woman”.

Her professional theses were repeatedly published in the national journals. She has represented the Chinese Opera Director Group in conducting various international academic exchanges and seminars. She has also been invited as judge in various types of programmes.
