To date, Seng Chew has produced over 40 shows since his return from London in the early 1990s. His production portfolio includes musicals, concerts, plays and operas of both western and oriental genres. Seng Chew played the pipa (Chinese lute) and guitar in the West End production of M Butterfly at London’s Shaftsbury Theatre and the Haymarket Theatre, UK. The founding member of the London Chinese Ensemble, he studied classical guitar at the London School of Music and lectured Chinese Music for the Inner London Educational Authority. He has performed at the Sun Yat Sun’s Centenarian Commemoration Concert at the Royal Theatre and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He also performed pipa concertos in Malaysia, Thailand Australia, and played the pipa part with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in the Yellow River Piano Concerto Concert. An avid follower of operas, Seng Chew has conducted music appreciation talks on Western classical music in association with the national news media. Seng Chew’s notable sold-out production works include Larger Than Life - Broadway & West End, La Traviata, Butterfly Lovers - The Musical, Beijing Opera Excerpts – Farewell My Concubine, I Have A Date With Spring - The Musical, Spring Kisses Lover’s Tears, I - The Nandan (Beijing Opera) and Hansel & Gretel - The Musical.
